BC Centre for Disease Control

When you're the go-to source for communicable disease prevention and control information for the entire province, your website has to convey comprehensive, trustworthy material in the most user-friendly way possible. The BC Centre for Disease Control serves both health professionals and the general public, and must strike the right balance between objectivity and scientific rigour on the one hand, and accessibility and warmth on the other.

Visitors may come to the site looking for the latest info about a pandemic, or simply the nearest STD testing clinic—and either way, they need to find what they're looking for quickly and easily. At the same time, we wanted to design a welcoming look and feel for the site that conveys the BCCDC's vision of making British Columbia the healthiest place on earth.

Our goal in redesigning the BCCDC site was to overcome any preconceptions visitors may have about “hazmat” suits, and translate the BCCDC's groundbreaking, collaborative approach to public health for its online audience.

We started by updating their corporate colour palette to a sunnier combination of blue and green, and designed a clean, easy-to-navigate interface for this large-scale website that uses crisp typography and colourful photography to carry mission-critical information to site visitors in the most immediate and approachable way possible.
