Junior Web Designer
You’ll be working in our newly renovated, heritage Gastown office with a small, friendly team of experts who love what we do and are committed to fostering a positive, healthy work environment. (That means a forty-hour work week, great clients, and stimulating work, among other good things.)
Responsibilities:
You will be designing and coding beautiful, user-friendly and content-rich websites for mission-driven organizations including non-profits, governmental organizations and progressive businesses. Specific responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with our lead designer to design great-looking websites and email newsletters that extend our clients' brands online, scale elegantly, and are easy to use;
- Working with our team of expert developers to produce crisp, standards-compliant XHTML and CSS code;
- Troubleshooting browser and platform agreement issues;
- Integrating templates with various Open Source CMSs, including Drupal, WordPress, and others;
- Testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of existing client sites;
- Working directly with clients throughout the design process;
- Providing regular updates to team and clients on progress.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and experience working on smaller teams – we are currently a five-person studio.
Must-Haves:
- Strong design skills, with experience designing for dynamic, content-driven websites;
- Experience integrating input from clients and delivering design solutions that fit clients' needs;
- High comfort level with (X)HTML and CSS;
- Advanced knowledge and implementation of W3C Web Standards;
- Advanced knowledge of browser/platform compatibility issues and techniques for front-end development;
- JavaScript: Basic to intermediate fluency;
- Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Good time manager;
- Customer service experience and/or experience working directly with clients;
- Comfortable working in a predominantly Mac environment, with some Windows use;
- Available for 9-5 work, five days a week, in downtown Vancouver.
Bonus Points For:
- Flash experience
- Significant experience with Drupal, WordPress, Typo3, Mambo, Joomla or other Content Management Systems
- Familiarity with Constant Contact, MailChimp, Vertical Response, and/or other hosted email management systems
- Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) principles as they apply to coding and development.

About the Position
5 day a week salaried position with benefits package (medical, dental and profit-sharing bonus structure). Salary range for the full-time position starts at $45,000/year, and is commensurate with experience.
