The NTEN newsletter is often a wealth of good information for non-profit organizations thinking about their digital strategy, but this last issue had some particularly juicy articles, relevant to the kinds of conversations we've been having with our clients lately. Here's some links to my favourites:
Often when we're working with clients and talking about enhanced tools for storytelling online, video is where people put their focus. But not every concept or idea is best presented as video and not everyone has the resources to work with it.
There's a lot of talk about mobile and tablet ready Apps these days, and for very good reason. There are some very impressive and excellent apps out there that are changing the way a lot of us managing information and interact with each other. That said, I just sat in on a webinar for a Mobile Giving app for non-profits and while the technology has certainly come a long way and is pretty darned easy to deploy at this point, I was left wondering whether or not it was what most non-profits need.
You know how the saying goes: the cobbler's children have no shoes. Ditto for the web studio and their website. We've historically struggled mightily with getting our own web house in order every 3 years or so and frequently get beyond a point where we're in desperate need of a retooling. The story is always the same: putting client work/client needs first. That said, we work really well with deadlines and our current one is Lauren's impending maternity leave. A date arriving all too soon, and not one with room for extensions.
For those who missed our September webinars, we now have recordings and slide decks available for your viewing pleasure!
We've attached them to the blog post for each webinar, so just choose the topic you're interested in:
This is a bit last-minute, but I just realized that I'd neglected to post here that I will be presenting our recent talk, "Redesigning Your Website? What You Need to Know," at tonight's Net Tuesday Vancouver meetup. Net Tuesday is a fantastic (and free) monthly event for Vancouver-area nonprofits and the techies who love them, and I'm delighted to be their guest this evening.
